All soldiers are brave. They put their lives on the line to save ours and fight for what they believe in. While every soldier is considered a hero, there are a few that stand out above the rest for their outstanding efforts. 10. Simo Hayha


Simo Hayha was a Finish marksman and sniper that was commonly referred to as White Death. During the Winter War, he reportedly killed 505 men. During the Soviets many efforts to kill Simo Hayha, he was injured by an explosive bullet that hit his lower left jaw and cheek. He was not killed, however.

9. Newton Knight



Newton Knight was an American farmer and soldier in Mississippi. He fought during the Civil War and was the leader of the Knight Company. Although he is considered to be a controversial figure, Newton knight is one of the greatest real life soldiers of all time. He enlisted in the Confederate Army, then the Company F of the 7th Battalion of Jasper County. He later changed sides against the Confederate Army and helped to defeat them, after many skirmishes and battles with them, including a brief stint in prison where he may have been tortured, and after having his farm and land burned.

Fazal Din was a Punjabi Muslim soldier. He earned the highest award for gallantry that British and Commonwealth offers; the Victoria Cross. He found during the Second World War as a part of the British Indian Army.

At the young, ripe age of nineteen he held off an entire company of German soldiers, single-handedly, followed by leading a counter attack while he was wounded and had run out of ammunition. He fought at Montelimar, was a part of the Allied Invasion of Siciliy, the liberation of Rome, the South France invasion, and much more.

Alvin York was one of the greatest real life soldiers ever. He was also one of the most decorated soldiers of World War II. He earned a Medal of Honor for his bravery during a German machine gun nest attack. Alvin York took charge during a deadly and dangerous attack, taking more than 130 German prisoners of war, and killing others. he was a national hero, received the Distinguished Services Cross, as well as other awards from not only the United States, but also France, Italy, and Montenegro.

5. Carl Brashear


Carl Brashear was a United States Navy sailor. In 1970, Carl Brashear became the first African American United States Navy Master Diver. As if that were not enough, he performed this feat after having his left leg amputated. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948, graduated the U.S. Navy Diving & Salvage School in 1954, and endured much hostility and racism during his career. During the Palomares incident of 1966, Carl Brashear was injured and lost his leg. For his bravery and service during this mission, he earned the Navy and Marine Corps Medal.

4. Marcus Luttrell


Marcus Luttrell is a former United States Navy SEAL.He led an eight year United States Navy career and earned several prestigious awards for his efforts. Among the awards he earned are the Navy Cross and a Purple Heart. When he retired, MArcus Luttrell was a Hospital Corpsman First Class, and he currently co-hosts the TV show After Action. He is considered one of the greatest real life soldiers of all time because of his actions during the 2005 Operation Red Wings ambush, where he was a part of the Navy SEAL team ten.

3. Mark “Oz” Geist, Kris “Tonto” Paronto, and John “Tig” Tiegen


Mark “Oz” Geist, Kris “Tonto” Paronto, and John “Tig” Tiegen are real life soldiers that endured terrifying circumstances while serving their country in 2012. During an attack made by Ansar I-Sharia armed militants on September 11, 2012 in Libya, four Americans were killed. The attack was on a diplomatic compound and CIA annex. These three marines stuck together, fought back, and somehow managed to survive the worst experience of their lives.

2. Robert O’Neill and the Seal Team 6


Robert O’Neill is a former United States Navy SEAL and special warfare operator. He was a member of the Navy Seal Team 6 that shoot and killed Osama Bin Laden. Robert O’Neill has claimed that he fired the head shot that killed Osama Bin Laden. I have included not only Robert O’Neill, but also the entire Seal Team 6 because they work as a team and while Robert O’Neill has taken credit for the shot that killed Osama Bin Laden, it was a team effort. Each and every Navy SEAL that entered into the Abbottabad compound on May 2, 2011 is a true hero and deserves to be on this list as one of the greatest real life soldiers ever.

1. Chris Kyle


Chris Kyle was a United States Nave SEAl, sniper, and veteran. He served four tours during the Iraq War and is considered to be one of the greatest real life soldiers ever. During his career, before he was honorable discharged in 2009, Chris Kyle received several awards for his bravery. Among the long list of awards he received are four Bronze Star Medals, a Silver Star Medal, and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Chris Kyle wrote a book based on his experiences, which was then adapted into a based on true life movie. Unfortunately, he was murdered in 2013 by a former Marine with PTSD, Eddie Ray Routh, at a shooting range.

These real life soldiers put everything on the line to protect and serve their country. They are considered the Top 10 Real Life Soldiers Ever until 2017. However, it is important to remember there are many other men and women that have served and still serve this wonderful nation. They put their lives in danger to ensure we remain safe in our country, and protect our basic civil rights, as well as protecting others.
