Racial tensions in the US have been receiving notice in recent years, stirred by major political and cultural events, and it is worth taking the time to appreciate African-American who are making themselves heard while looking gorgeous at the same time. Here is a list of the top 10 hottest African-American men of 2017 — men who make the world a more visually beautiful place.
List of Top 10 Most Handsome Hottest African-American Men in The World in 2017
10. Ahamefule J. Oluo
Comedian/jazz musician and loving father Ahamefule J. Oluo has risen through what some might call a troubled background to make a name for himself playing, conducting, and writing music before even turning 35. “The men in my family love drugs,” Oluo says, referring in part to his Nigerian father, who met Oluo’s white mother while earning a university degree in the United States and left the family soon after Oluo’s birth. In 2015 Oluo debuted his dark comic pop opera, “Now I’m Fine.” There does not seem to exist a bad photo of Oluo on the Internet: his baby face is always contrasted with a sleek, stylish suit and a cool haircut. It’s not difficult to see why Oluo’s second wife, Lindy West, a well-known feminist writer for The Guardian, GQ, and other major publications, writes numerous heart-warming articles and social media posts about her “conventionally attractive” husband. Let us hope Oluo’s smoldering Pharaoh eyes and mixed casual-formal fashion sense — hipster, but in all the best ways — will grace the arts and culture pages for years to come.
9. Donald Glover
Following his role as Rich Purnell in the box office success The Martian (2015), Donald Glover is set to appear in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. That won’t be his most brag-worthy geek cred, however, In October 2016, Lucasfilm broke the news that Glover, also a comedy writer/musician, has been cast as Lando Calrissian in the next Star Wars movie centered around Han Solo. Don’t be fooled by his youthful cheeks and goofy smile: his appearance in Magic Mike XXL has proven that he has abs for days. Movie Pilot points out that Glover is also doing quite well in his rap career recently, but the view from here of his open blazer is a little too distracting. Also, this cannot be said of every man, but Glover has a truly great beard.
8. Carmelo Anthony
Carmelo Anthony, professional basketball player with the New York Knicks, is “actually really good at basketball,” notes The New York Times. Anthony, or “Melo,” won his fourth Olympic gold medal in the 2016 Summer Games and now totals one bronze and three gold. In Rio, he also played a record-breaking game for the US men’s team by scoring 37 points. Besides establishing the Carmelo Anthony Foundation in 2005, Anthony continues to give his time and funds to different charitable organizations and, at the end of 2015, was honored with the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for his work. The tall drink of NBA water does “fill out that Knicks uniform incredibly nicely,” as E Online describes, but his kindness and generosity are pretty darn sexy, too.
7. Taye Diggs
Perhaps best known as the only guy who deserves to live in House on Haunted Hill and the guy who really deserves to die at Christian Bale’s hands in Equilibrium, Taye Diggs does not hesitate to remind his Twitter followers, half-jokingly, that he has also had various excellent roles on Broadway and beyond. He is the former husband of Frozen’s Idina Menzel and an anti-bullying “global ambassador.” Digg’s role in STOMP Out Bullying’s 2016 video is no less important than his Hollywood roles. GQ reports that Diggs began following everyone — not just celebrities — on Twitter in 2016: “I think most people in the world, when they got a follow from Taye Diggs, they felt happy.” We would agree. That down-to-earth side (however calculated), in combination with his trim, tidy sort of sexiness and sly twinkle in his eye, can’t fail to make a flattering impression. According to TV Line, the man with the “million-watt smile” is following Private Practice with TV drama Empire, which Diggs joined in September 2016. TV experts describe Diggs’s character as a Harvard-bred councilman with a Barack Obama-like passion for community and politics. Any role that puts Diggs in a suit (and, even better, glasses) deserves an award.
6. Eric Underwood
American danseur Eric Underwood only began studying ballet at 14 and is now a soloist with the Royal Ballet in England. He has had lead parts in Swan Lake and other major productions and is planning a post-ballet career in modeling. Underwood previously danced with American Ballet Theatre with Misty Copeland, a half-white, half-African-American ballerina who is also making a difference in the still predominantly white industry. By refusing to stay out of the spotlight despite his gender, skin color, and low-income background, Underwood is fighting the good fight for diversity: The Guardian reported in 2016 that his efforts helped push manufacturers to produce “flesh tone” ballet shoes for black dancers. Although he is an artist, Underwood also has the flawless, athletic body of a professional (classical) ballet dancer: effortless-looking strength, long, lean lines, and impossible flexibility and fluidity of movement. Check out Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and you’ll be amazed by how seductive and sexy a human-sized caterpillar could be. The Royal Opera House describes Underwood in this role that he created as, succinctly, a “charming creature.”
5. Denzel Washington
With a solid career spanning from 1981 and including everything from Training Day to Philadelphia, Washington is not afraid to star in less artsy fare such as 2016’s The Magnificent Seven. Although the stylish-looking movie received mixed reviews, The New York Times praises it for defying genre conventions — Westerns historically feature only white heroes — and comments that he “looks just right high in the saddle” and “there’s no denying the appeal of the image of Mr. Washington riding a horse.” Even alongside Chris Pratt, who is more than 20 years his junior, Washington looks as dashing as ever. We would imagine Washington looks quite appealing in a lot of other places. he is one amongst the Top 10 Most Handsome Hottest African-American Men in The World 2017.
4. Colin Kaepernick
Colin Kaepernick, quarterback for the San Francisco 49, made the news in the summer of 2016 when he drew attention to disproportionate police violence against African Americans. The football player was born to a white American mother and African-American father, and adopted by white American parents. In September Kaepernick disclosed that he had received death threats for his activism, reports KTLA. His teammates are proud to support his actions, however, and Kaepernick believes it is important to make a difference in the US, where “there’s a lot of racism disguised as patriotism, and people don’t like to address that.” There might be less controversy if we addressed his rock hard physique — buff, without an inch of excess fat, yet free of unsightly veins and lumps — the cool ink art across his chest and upper arms, and his winning smile.
3. Colson Whitehead
New Yorker Colson Whitehead hit the headlines and literary festivals across the world in 2016 with his sixth novel, The Underground Railroad. The Harvard-educated writer’s work has been in both the New York Times Bestsellers List and President Barack Obama’s personal reading list, with the latest being a serious yet captivating look at the history of slavery… in an alternate universe. As a popular novelist who writes about important issues, Whitehead dresses with “the right amount of whimsy and cool,” GQ reports. Even without the lumberjack shirts — that chest looks like one you might have a good, long cry on — and rugged hairstyle, there is nothing sexier than a man with intelligence and a “dry, acerbic” wit. We could listen to him talk about all his book awards for days, if he weren’t too cool to do that.
2. Daryl Homer
American fencer Daryl Homer brought home Olympic silver in the 2016 Rio Games, the first to do so for the US in men’s saber since 1904. This is especially impressive if you consider that no American man has ever won gold in that category. His ethnicity is also “a rarity in the sport,” according to USA Today, which makes Homer’s achievements all the more important in a year in which the Olympics has been plagued with racist remarks and reporting. Homer has the facial structure of a god and, when he smiles, eyes that could melt silver. We are not at all surprised about the number of topless fencing photos the media has taken of Homer — even without the medals he has won for his country, fencing is rather a dashing sport.
1. Barack Obama
Born to a white American mother and Kenyan-American father, the 44th President of the United States has strong political ideas and a jawline sharp enough to cut cheese. Even those who are uninterested in politics must admit President Barack Obama is objectively tall, fit, and impeccably dressed. GQ praises President Obama’s “seriously preppy style” and argues that he is the “best-dressed American president since JFK.” President Obama always dresses appropriately and effortlessly, and although his long, difficult years of public service have left their mark on his visage, he looks more distinguished than ever (and, honestly, still younger than his age). Although his term will end at the start of 2017, his soulful eyes and genuine grace will continue to be enhanced by the glow of inspiring other African-Americans who need someone to look up to — someone well-educated, accomplished, and kind. It certainly doesn’t hurt that President Obama’s predecessor and successor in the White House are not exactly top physical specimens.
These above are the Top 10 Most Handsome Hottest African-American Men in The World 2017. Honorable mentions go to Idris Elba and John Boyega, who unfortunately for Americans are British. These are by no means the only hot African-American men out and about in 2017, but that’s okay: they remain out there for you to discover (who doesn’t like surprises?) or to keep to yourself.
